Femara prescribing information

Femara notes

Letrozole sold under the brand name Femara is used to treat women suffering from breast cancer and who have attained menopause. Femara medication is more effective in treating breast cancer and thus advised instead of more commonly used anti-estrogen medication – Tamoxifen. Femara breast cancer medication reduces the estrogen levels that slow down the growth of certain breast tumors. Just like Femara, Anastrozole found in medical stores under the brand name Arimidex is also administered to check breast cancer development. Femara for infertility problem has shown positive results and is used in an "off-label" fashion to treat infertility. Women are recommended to take Femara infertility curing drug nearing their menses that would decrease estrogen levels and increase substances and result in ovulation. Femara PCOS drug has shown positive results in treating women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. Femara endometriosis medication is very effective in checking estrogen levels thus checks progression of estrogen-dependent disease - endometriosis and the pain related to it. One can experience Femara side effects like skin irritation, difficulty in breathing, swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat, hot flashes, headache, muscle or joint pain, fatigue, night sweats, nausea, vomiting, etc. if one has been using Femara for treating breast cancer symptoms. You should consult your doctor and seek immediate medical help if you face any of the above side effects. Femara and pregnancy do not go together. Femara should never been taken by pregnant women as it damages the fetus. Femara is usually used in women who have crossed the childbearing age and reached menopause. Femara should be taken once daily, with or without food (one 2.5-mg tablet a day). Femara should be continued as long as one finds growth in the tumour. It is best to take the guidance of your healthcare provider regarding dosage of Femara who would suggest exact dosage depending upon the severity of your breast cancer.

Description

The generic name of Femara is letrozole, which is a non-steroidal aromatase inhibitor. Femara is indicated for the treatment of hormonally responsive breast cancer and it acts by blocking the production of estrogen in human body, because of which the cancer cells stop growing. Apart from the treatment of breast cancer, Femara is also used for the treatment of endometriosis and some fertility doctors use it for ovarian stimulation. The dosage of Femara that is advised by doctors is about 2.5 mg in a single day and it can be taken without food too. Description Femara is an anti-estrogen medicinal drug that is utilized for the treatment of breast cancer in postmenopausal women. It was approved in the year 1997 by Food and Drug Administration of US for medicinal use. Drug Mechanism Femara functions by blocking the production of estrogen hormone in a female body because presence of estrogen in blood leads to the growth of cancer cells. Dosage: It is advised to consume Femara once in a day with or without food in form of tablets of 2.5 mg each. Possible Side Effects As per the studies the chances of possible side effects in case of Femara treatment are quite less when compared to other medicines. It may not be necessary that every woman who uses Femara feels its side effects but here are certain side effects that are common: • Vomiting • Nausea • Headache • Fatigue • Muscle pain • Pain in chest • Constipation • Diarrhoea Caution Femara is not recommended for pregnant women because it has a tendency to damage the Fetus. Therefore, it should be consumed by only those women who are no longer willing or able to give birth.
