Campto
 Irinotecan (brand name: Camptosar, manuf. by Pfizer; and barand name: Campto, manuf. by Yakult Honsha) is a drug used for the treatment of cancer. Irinotecan prevents DNA from unwinding by inhibition of topoisomerase 1. In chemical terms, it is a semisynthetic analogue of the natural alkaloid camptothecin.
Its main use is in colon cancer, in particular, in combination with other chemotherapy agents. This includes the regimen FOLFIRI, which consists of infusional 5-fluorouracil, leucovorin, and irinotecan.
Camptosar’s active ingredient which is irinotecan hydrochloride has proved to be a powerful substance for cancer treatment. Camptosar may be used both alone or in combination with other anticancer medicines. Immediately after the spread of bowel cancer has been diagnosed Camptosar should be prescribed as a part of anticancer therapy. Campostar can be taken alone after cancer relapse. However it is important that a patient takes blood test to rule out the possibility of allergy to any components of the preparation.
Campto, also known as Camptosar is used in the treatment of bowel cancer, when it has already infested other organs and surgery alone cannot assure the desired result. For that reason, medication with anticancer drugs is indicated as alternatives, also known as chemotherapy. Continue reading...
