Seroquel
Seroquel is one of the largest trade names for the drug Quetiapine. It is an antipsychotic that is widely used for the treatment of mental disorders such as schizophrenia, manic, mixed or depressive bipolar disorders. Some clinical trials also prove it to be positive in cases of deep depression. Some physicians will also recommend Seroquel as a treatment for Tourette’s syndrome and alcoholism but this is neither indicated nor contraindicated by the FDA. For those who have insomnia and anxiety they may also be recommended to use a low dose of Seroquel.
Zyprexa
 Zyprexa drug of class atypical antipsychotics and having generic name olanzapine is basically used for the treatment of schizophrenia and other manic episodes related to bipolar disorder. It mainly works by blocking the receptors for several neurotransmitters in the brain i.e. it helps to restore the balance of natural chemicals in the brain. It is very important to note that this drug should not be used for treating dementia - if taken for such psychotic conditions it may lead to heart failure, sudden death or pneumonia. It has been noticed that drinking alcohol along with zyprexa can increase sleepiness. Sometimes patients develop severe sedation, coma or delirium after an injection of extended release olanzapine. This drug sometimes increases prolactin levels which manifests as abnormal menstruation, sexual dysfunction and breast enlargement. Zyprexa can also be used to prevent nausea and vomiting caused by cancer drug treatment (chemotherapy).
Bipolar I disorder is, according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders (DSM IV), a mental illness in which the person swings between major depressive episodes and mania. It is characterized by mood changes that may be independent of life stressors but, instead, may be brought about by an imbalance of neurotransmitters in the brain. Mania is characterized by excessive agitation, pressured speech, delusions of grandeur, and sometimes hallucinations. Depression is characterized by feelings of worthlessness, hopelessness, guilt, psychomotor retardation, weight gain/loss, hypersomnia/insomnia, and negative feelings or thoughts of suicide.
