Cozaar notes:

Losartan is a widely used medicine for treatment of high blood pressure which is sold under the product brand name Cozaar. It can be taken alone or in tandem with other medicines like diuretics to keep high blood pressure under control. Being first of an emerging class of medications called angiotensin II receptor antagonists; Cozaar averts the constriction of blood vessels by keeping angiotensin II hormone under check. Progress of kidney disease caused by Type 2 diabetes slows down under the effect of Cozaar.
Regular use of Cozaar is essential and it may take several weeks of medication before the desired results are obtained. As the medicine only keeps high blood pressure under control and does not cure it, it becomes pertinent that patient should continue taking Cozaar even after he starts feeling absolutely fine.
Though it can be taken with or without food, Cosaar should be taken at the same time every day to establish a routine. It is best to sore the drug in an airtight jar away from sunlight at room temperature.
It’s quite difficult to anticipate side effects and doctor should be informed as soon as any change is noticed in intensity. Cough, dizziness, upper respiratory tract infection are some of the more common side effects. Less frequent side effects include diarrhea, indigestion, insomnia, muscle cramps or pain, swelling of face, lips, throat and tongue, nasal congestion, and other allergic reactions.
Since Cozaar is known to be potentially fatal for the unborn child, it’s important to stop taking the drug as soon as pregnancy becomes known. It affects infants adversely so breast feeding mothers should either avoid Cozaar or if it is essential for their health, stop feeding the baby.
As it’s not clear how the patient would react to Cozaar, he should avoid driving and operating machinery by himself in the first few days of starting medication.
