Competact notes:
Competact (generic name Pioglitazone) known also as Metformin is used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus particularly in overweight patients, who are unable to achieve sufficient glycaemic control at their maximum tolerated dose of metformin. Diabetes leads to problem in controlling blood sugar levels. This medication containing pioglitazone hydrochloride and metformin hydrochloride helps to keep blood sugar level under control.
Competact side effects includes nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, loss of appetite, blood in the urine, erectile dysfunction, eyesight problem, hypoaesthesia, oedema, itching, difficulty sleeping or sinusitis.
It is marketed under name of Actoplus met in United States.
The recommended dosage for Compectact is as prescribed by doctor; it is taken with or after food. If a dose is missed continue with the regular routine and do not double up the dose. Seek emergency medical attention if an overdose of this medication is detected.
Competact is available in 15 mg/850 mg dosage form, in which 15 mg is of pioglitazone and 850 mg of metformin. It is advisable not to take competact if you are allergic to any of the ingredient of competact , avoid drinking alcohol as it can worsened the side effects of this medication.
Consult doctor before taking competact if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant during treatment. Breast feeding women should not take this medicine.
Store competact at room temperature away from the reach of children.
