Azarga has two active substances: Timolol and Brinzolamide. It is an eye-drop suspension that is utilized to decrease ocular-pressure or IOP which refers to pressure inside the eye. It is prescribed to adults who are suffering from open-angle glaucoma which is an illness wherein the pressure in the eye is raised since the fluid cannot be drained out of the eye. It is also recommended for adults who have eye-pressure that is elevated or higher than normal, also known as ocular hypertension. Azarga is utilized when treatment with a medication that contains only one active substance has been carried out but failed to reduce the IOP adequately. Common side effects include blurred vision, dysgeusia, eye irritation, sensation of a foreign body in the eye, and eye pain.

About Azarga
Increased pressure in the eye may be due to an increased production of bicarbonate ions which are essential in the production of the aqueous humor (fluid in the eyes). The bicarbonate ions are produced by an enzyme called carbonic anhydrase. If not treated, this increased ocular pressure may lead to serious damage to the sensitive parts of the eye especially the retina; the back of the eye sensitive to light, and the optic nerve which connects the eye with the brain. Azarga helps to decrease this pressure by blocking the action of this enzyme. With the combination of Brinzolamide; which blocks the carbonic anhydrase enzyme and Timolol a beta blocker widely used in the treatment of glaucoma for over three decades; Azarga provides a more effective treatment for glaucoma and ocular hypertension or similar eye conditions.
