Aciphex is also prescribed as an instant treatment to heartburns that are accompanying symptoms of GERD and as a long term medication for Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and other hypersecretory conditions and disease. It can either serve as a temporary and symptomatic treatment or as a long term treatment and maintenance for certain conditions. Aciphex is usually combined with clarithromycin or amoxicillin for Helicobacter pylori which is a common type of bacteria with ulcer conditions.
On a certain clinical trial, researchers explored the use of the Rabeprazole group, specifically using Aciphex in a group of 455 patients who were affected with laryngopharyngeal reflux disease. The benefits of proton pump inhibitors for this particular disease have long been argued but this particular trial has shown progress and revealed clearer data for the drug. In a timeframe of 12 weeks, the 455 participants were to first be tested and scored according to the reflux symptom index and reflux finding score which would also be used in the 4th,8th and final weeks of the study. During this course, the patients continually received varying dosages of Aciphex according to the calculations. In the end, minimal side effects resulted but symptoms of LPRD have been reduced. The next step to take is the evaluation of a long term treatment and its benefits.
On a separate clinical study, the efficacy of Rabeprazole or Aciphex was evaluated for patients particularly Japanese who were affected with reflux esophagitis. The Japanese participants were to receive a long term treatment of proton pump inhibitors to as much as 2 years. Aside from treatment of the reflux esophagitis itself, the researchers also took note of any serious adverse effects so as to verify its safety on this long duration of intake. All of the patients were to receive 10 mg of Aciphex one per day. Prior, during and after the 104 week therapy, endoscopic examinations, gastroesophageal reflux disease symptom evaluation, tests for serum gastrin and any adverse effects were conducted. Moreover, gastric musical histology was taken to determine any atrophy or development of polyps. The results showed that it Aciphex can be passed as a proper treatment in terms of effectiveness and safety for maintenance of reflux esophagitis according to the previously cited factor values and tests results.
